Sandra, a friend from my days at the Rusco house at CSHL, came up today from Lausanne. We had a great time walking around Niedledorf, drinking too much wine, etc. All-in-all, a very memorable birthday!
Dinner at Mir and Denise's house tonight. Fondu with kirsch - the stuff packs a wallop.
The trains (and trams and buses) are always on time in Switzerland. It's particularly hilarious if a bus or tram is AHEAD of schedule. It will actually sit at stops waiting for its scheduled departure, even with a full load of passengers. Imagine the same situation in the U.S., say New York. People would be yelling -- no screaming -- at the driver to get going.
It's 2:37 AM. I've just come from the local pub down the street across from the University. I'm sitting in the hotel lobby gnawing on an emental-esque brick of cheese and slice of bread given to me by the proprietor of the last bar. Most excellent. Alanis Morissete plays on the radio. Maybe it IS ironic...
