The Travel Channel is airing a new show called “1000 Places To See Before You Die”.
The show stars a newlywed couple of travel neophytes from Colorado, or perhaps Greenwich, CT. They’ve won an all-expense paid trip to see these 1000 places in – get this – 14 weeks. Part reality show, part tour guide, part product-placement and advertising bonanza, the results are just as ridiculous and boring as the book on which it is based.
Fortunately, our intrepid guides get the best of accomodations and flight arrangements. With a rigorous schedule of 11 must-see sites per day, they need it! Even so, they have time out for mundane tasks like hang gliding or surfing lessons or eating and sleeping. *
At any rate, this should make another good ticklist for the Lonely Planet-eer travel automatons.
* It turns out that the 1000 places to see are limited to 13 countries. The others, I guess, aren’t really worth seeing.
