I know that it’s incredibly popular for soft-minded conservative agent-provocateurs to criticize the “liberal bias” of the media. And they do it because advertisers hawking SUVs and fast food on these media outlets have determined that it’s all their demographic can handle. Sadly, it’s probably true. Most americans still seem to think there is a connection between Iraq and terrorism. (Of course, now there probably actually IS one, one that we’ve created).
But is there *really* a “liberal media bias”? If anything, the mainstream media shows an incredibly conservative bias. Here’s yet another case in point. A recent headline from the pathetic Salt Lake Tribune reads “Bush attacks Demos over Iraq Stance”.
Hello? Demos? Who are the “Demos”? This is not a moniker that the Democratic party uses to describe itself. Why has the Salt Lake Tribune decided to use this cutesy nickname in a headline? There can be no other explanation but to sway public opinion.
Now, the Salt Lake Tribune is about the bottom of the barrel when it comes to journalistic quality — and let’s not even broach journalistic integrity. At least in this case the article was lifted from the AP, but still this is just pathetic. Do they ever refer to the republican party as the “‘Licans”? Or maybe the “Rethuglicans”?
