Finally, a big powder day. It seems like we have had very few this year. PCMR reported 12″ on Jupiter summit and this time they weren’t lying. Granted not capital Epic but certainly an epic considering how little snow we have had recently.
Because Payday and McConkeys are out of commission, the whole flow of the mountain is altered. I headed straight over to Thaynes for nearly first tracks on Double Jack, Thaynes, Hoist, and Keystone. Easily boot high. Dropped down to hit the Aspen glades off of Fool’s Gold and Gloryhole, then over to Pioneer and up to Jupiter.
Jupiter, of course, was packed. After a long powder drought like we have had it’s to be expected. Did a few laps on Jupiter Bowl then hiked the peak. Dropped down the face near Pioneer ridge and into the trees near the access road. I’ve never really skied in the s below the access road were really soft.
And today Upper Pinecone opened around 10:30. The ridge above Scott’s was super nice, easily waist deep on tele gear, untracked. Flying low.
