Wow! You might recall a few weeks ago when Park City’s Bonanza high-speed six pack broke down, or last year when Silverlode broke down. Well, this time it’s Payday!
Silverlode was bad, breaking the mountain into two inaccessible sides, necessitating aggravating trips to the congested base of the mountain. Bonanza wasn’t as critical since Ski Team serves essentially the same terrain and provides access to Silverlode.
But for those of you who don’t know Park City, Payday is the prime access route from the resort base. The solution? Get this: They are taking McConkey’s offline, pulling parts, and using them to get Payday back up.
Now, I’m no certified lift technician. But in all three cases, the explanation was that these were parts that they don’t keep on hand because they aren’t expected to break. Look. This is ski season. No lifts, no skiing. This is the third lift — all the same make and model I believe — and all have broken in the “gearbox” within the past year. Ridiculous. It’s time for Park City to either replace these lifts with ones from American manufacturers or get a clue and keep sufficient spare parts on hand that they can get them fixed overnight.
For those of you coming to Park City, head up to Deer Valley or bite the bullet and drive over to the Cottonwoods.
